The 4 Days Mount Meru Trek is one of Tanzania's most rewarding short mountain adventures. Set inside Arusha National Park, it combines wildlife encounters on the lower slopes with a dramatic alpine climb to Socialist Peak at 4,566m. It is a superb option for trekkers seeking a stand-alone climb or a strong acclimatization trek before Kilimanjaro.

Day 1
Register at Momella Gate and begin the trek through open grasslands and acacia woodland. Keep an eye out for giraffes, zebras, and buffaloes — the lower slopes of Meru are rich with wildlife. The trail climbs steadily through forest to Miriakamba Hut. Elevation: 5,000ft to 8,500ft. Hiking time: 3-4 hours.
Day 2
Ascend through heath and moorland with increasingly dramatic views of Kilimanjaro on the horizon. The trail passes the Fig Tree Arch and continues to Saddle Hut, perched between the Little Meru and main summit crater. An afternoon acclimatization walk to Little Meru summit is highly recommended. Elevation: 8,500ft to 11,700ft. Hiking time: 4-5 hours.
Day 3
Start before sunrise for the steep ascent up the crater rim. The trail traverses ash and scree slopes along the crater ridge to Socialist Peak (4,566m). Soak in breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro and the Great Rift Valley before descending back to Miriakamba Hut. Elevation: 11,700ft to 14,990ft (down to 8,500ft). Hiking time: 8-10 hours.
Day 4
Descend through the forest back to Momella Gate. The trail is gentle and offers final views of the park's wildlife. Receive your certificate and transfer back to Arusha. Elevation: 8,500ft to 5,000ft. Hiking time: 2-3 hours.
